Welcome To Smart Towns' Website
A smart town is an urban area that uses different types of electronic methods and sensors to collect data. Insights gained from that data are used to manage assets, resources, and services efficiently; in return, that data is used to improve operations and future prosperity across the town.
The Welsh Government’s Smart Towns programme has been extended until 2025.
To date (June 2024) the Smart Towns Team have delivered over 116 workshops/online events to c1693 people from county councils, town councils, and local businesses, engaged with over 130 towns, produced 30+ digital action plans and implemented pilot projects and case studies all over Wales. Visit our events page to see photos from some of our recent events and links to our upcoming sessions.
The programme continues to support businesses, councils and communities in using digital technology and data to regenerate their high streets, in line with the Transforming Towns agenda.
This means helping businesses to use data to work smarter and not harder, and to identify opportunities for growth; using data to justify and inform investment, and to measure the success of any interventions.
